Vanessa went to college at the University of North Texas and received a Bachelor Degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. She completed her field placement hours at Denton County Friends of the Family. She worked with abused women and children at the shelter. Vanessa helped women and children work on their emotional issues individually and during group sessions. Vanessa worked in the Social Work field as a Milieu Therapist with many children who were placed in a Girls Group Home due to physical, emotional, sexual, and verbal abuse. Vanessa has worked closely with CPS to help children get their needs met and stay in a safe environment.

vanessaVanessa is a certified special needs teacher (K-12) and has taught in public and private schools for the past 15 years. She has worked with children on the Autism/Asperger’s Spectrum, Behavior Management, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. Vanessa has written many Individual Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans to help students achieve their goals. Vanessa’s first job as a teacher was Behavior Management. Vanessa worked with kids that were suffering from Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and Paranoid Schizophrenia. She developed and tailored lesson plans for each student according to their level of need. Vanessa also created goals to help her students with behavior modification.
Vanessa received her Master of Arts in School Counseling and Professional Counseling at Amberton University. Vanessa completed her School Counseling Practicum Hours at Bridge Builder Academy working with students with learning disabilities through home schooling and tutoring at the school. Vanessa helped students reach their goals by building confidence and self-esteem. She also taught a Character Education class with students. The students learned how to build their character, social skills, anxiety and stress reduction, and how to handle peer pressure.

Vanessa completed her Professional Counseling Practicum at Adapt serving the mental health population. She worked with clients in the community so they could successfully live on their own and developed many treatment plans to help clients achieve their goals.
Vanessa looks forward to pursuing her passion to help children with a wide range of developmental disorders and mental diagnoses including:  Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Paranoid Schizophrenia, Adjustment Disorders, ADHD/ADD, and anxiety reduction. I can’t wait to work with a diverse group of kids and make a difference in their lives! I’m so excited to be a part of the TreeHouse Counseling Team as an LPC-I intern!

Vanessa has been happily married for 8 years and is in the process of adopting children. Vanessa also volunteers in the middle school ministry at her church. Vanessa loves spending time with her husband, family, and friends, walking her dogs, and going to church on the weekends.
